A good AI email designer turns a plain description into editable blocks on a canvas, not a wall of table HTML for you to paste into your ESP. Milo Email Studio is a drag-and-drop email builder first; the AI designer is the helper that gives you a first draft to edit. The words and the brand are still yours. The AI just gets you there faster.
What people want from an "AI email design tool"
Whether people are searching or asking an assistant, they're usually after the same thing: describe an email, get something that looks like a real template, and leave with HTML or MJML they can hand to Mailchimp, Zoho or whichever ESP you use.
You've probably seen how this goes wrong. You ask ChatGPT for a weekend-sale email, get a fragile table layout, paste it into your ESP, and lose the afternoon fixing brand colours, Outlook quirks and a button that never matched your kit. Chat assistants are fine for first-draft copy, but finishing the layout, getting the brand right, testing it and producing an export-ready file is a job for a proper studio.
What works better is drafting blocks in a real email canvas, editing them, sending a test, and then exporting or pushing a Zoho draft. That's what an AI email design tool should do from start to finish.
Milo's AI designer loop (end-to-end)
Describe the email
You don't need a prompt formula or a template to start. Tell the AI designer, in the panel next to the canvas, who the email's for and what it should do, in your own words. The box just says Describe the email, or say what to change. If you'd like a nudge, the suggestions cover a welcome email, a hero-and-benefits layout or a rewrite in your brand voice.
Got a logo or photo? Attach it in the panel, or point the AI designer at an image that's already in your media library.
AI drafts on-brand blocks onto the canvas
There's no copy-and-paste stage. The AI designer writes blocks straight onto the live canvas: sections, titles, paragraphs, images, buttons and the rest of the usual building blocks. Once it's done, the reply in the panel stays short, because the work is on the canvas.
If you've got a brand kit switched on, its colours, fonts and buttons guide the draft. The AI designer can also restyle an email to your brand the same way the Brand panel does, without touching your copy. For more on how the kit keeps AI drafts in line, see keep AI-drafted email blocks on-brand with a brand kit.
You can choose which model to use in the AI panel. The options and their names change from time to time, so just pick whichever suits the job.
Edit on the canvas
Because the draft is real blocks, fixing a line is an edit, not another round of prompting. Rewrite what sounds off and move or reorder blocks, and the kit styles hold unless you override them. The legal footer, the accuracy of the offer, the hierarchy and the alt text still need a person to check them. The AI drafted it, but you're the one sending it.
Starting a fresh conversation for that email doesn't touch your work either. Clear the thread in the panel and the blocks on the canvas stay put until you change them.
Test
You see the email in a real inbox before anyone else does. A Test goes to an address on your account, with a subject that starts with Test, so you can check the layout, CTA and brand before you export. If your team needs to sign off without editing, share a read-only preview link.
Export-ready HTML/MJML or connect Zoho
There's no rebuild at the end. You leave with HTML (downloaded or copied), MJML, or a zip of the assets for a manual import into your ESP. The import steps are in design a branded email and export it to your ESP.
On Zoho Campaigns you can skip the file: connect Zoho Campaigns and push an export-ready draft, then review and finish the campaign in Zoho. For other ESPs, use the file.
Brand kit is the guardrail (not the whole story)
A brand kit holds the palette, fonts and buttons for your workspace. New blocks from the AI designer pick them up, so you spend your time on the content rather than restyling every draft. It won't proofread for you, though, and it's only one part of how the AI designer works.
Set the kit up once and every draft after that starts on-brand. For the detail on how blocks inherit the kit, and the gap between "the AI wrote it" and "it's ready to go", read AI drafts and brand kits. For setting up a kit, see brand kits for on-brand email templates.

The AI summaries in Apple Mail and Gmail sum up messages people have already received. Milo's AI designer drafts email blocks for you to edit and export. They're both AI and both about email, but they're different things.
Comments (on the Team plan) are for people in your workspace to talk about the email. They're separate from the AI designer, which is the design panel described above.
AI designer inside Flows
If you make the same kind of email again and again, you can put the AI designer on a Flows canvas as an AI Designer node, so the draft is waiting for you rather than starting from scratch. You choose a model and describe the email once, and it drafts on-brand blocks each time the flow runs. It can come after a Create Draft step, or before Upload to connection if you want a Zoho draft at the end. The Flows read covers every node and its limits.
Credits and plans
The AI designer uses your monthly AI credits. Right now, Free includes 100 credits, Pro includes 2,000, and Team shares 6,000 across the workspace, plus 2,000 for each extra seat. The canvas, Test emails and export are all on Free. The pricing page always has the current numbers.
If generation is briefly unavailable, try again in a moment. The exact cost of each generation depends on the model and how much it writes, so there's no fixed "credits per email" figure.
FAQ
What is an AI email designer?
It's a tool that turns a description into editable email blocks on a canvas. You then edit them, send a Test, and take export-ready HTML or MJML (or push a Zoho draft). You shouldn't end up with a chat transcript full of fragile table HTML.
How does Milo's AI designer work end-to-end?
You describe the email in the AI designer panel, it drafts on-brand blocks onto the canvas, and you edit them. Then you send a Test and either download HTML or MJML, or connect Zoho and push a draft.
What should I type?
Who the email's for and what it should do: the offer, the tone and the main CTA. For example, "Weekend sale, 30% off through Sunday, one shop button." If you've got a logo handy, attach it.
Do the blocks land on a real canvas I can edit?
Yes. Everything goes onto the live email canvas, where you can rewrite the copy, move blocks and keep or override the kit styles.
How does the brand kit interact with AI-drafted blocks?
Your active kit guides the colours, fonts and buttons. New blocks inherit those styles, and you still edit the words. More detail: AI drafts and brand kits.
What should I do after the AI drafts?
Edit it, send a Test to an address on your account, and share a preview link if someone needs to approve it. Then export, or push a Zoho draft.
Can I export HTML and MJML, or connect Zoho?
Yes. Share and Export give you HTML, copy HTML, MJML and an assets zip. Zoho Campaigns supports connecting and pushing a draft. For handing a file to other ESPs, see the ESP export guide.
Does the AI designer send my marketing list?
Milo gets the email ready and hands it over as export-ready HTML or MJML, or as a Zoho draft. You review it and send or schedule it from the ESP that holds your list.
Is this the same as Apple Mail / Gmail inbox AI summaries?
No. Inbox AI summarises email you've received. Milo's AI designer drafts blocks for emails you're building. See designing for inbox AI summaries.
How is this different from the brand-kit read?
Keep AI-drafted blocks on-brand is about the kit as a guardrail. This page covers the whole AI designer process, from describing the email through to export or a Zoho draft.
Can I use AI designer inside Flows?
Yes, as an AI Designer node that runs when you press Run now. See Introducing Flows.
Can the AI generate images?
No. Attach images in the panel, upload them to the media library, or use placeholders. The AI designer can put those images into image blocks, but it doesn't create stock photos.
Do I need Pro for AI designer?
No. Free includes the AI designer with a monthly credit allowance, and Pro and Team give you more. The canvas, Test and export are all on Free. See pricing.
How are comments different from the AI designer?
The AI designer panel drafts blocks. Comments are for people in the workspace, on the Team plan. The designer sits next to the canvas, and comments open from the header.
Is Milo only an ESP builder alternative?
Milo is a design studio with an AI designer, brand kits, Test emails and export-ready files, and you send from Zoho, Mailchimp or whichever ESP you use. For the trade-off between a studio and your ESP's editor, see design then export versus build in your ESP. New here? Start with introducing Milo.
Seasonal emails from the same loop
The same describe, edit, Test and export loop covers seasonal work too. Use it for a Black Friday email set from one brand kit, or a quieter Halloween email design with one seasonal accent. Leave with export-ready HTML or MJML when you're ready.
Describe the next email
The best test of an AI email designer is an email you actually need to send. Describe it, and you'll have on-brand blocks to edit, a Test in your own inbox, and export-ready HTML or MJML or a Zoho draft at the end. Keep the brand kit switched on so everything stays on-brand. You can start on Milo whenever you're ready.
