Milo vs Beefree (RGE Studio) for small teams

Milo vs Beefree (RGE Studio): when a lighter drag-and-drop builder with a brand kit and AI designer is enough, and when RGE Studio's full suite wins.

By Darryl Chapman

Updated : reframed around the drag-and-drop builder.

If you're comparing Milo vs Beefree (now RGE Studio), you're really choosing between Milo Email Studio, a lighter drag-and-drop builder, and a full collaborative design suite. RGE Studio fits when you want a large template catalogue, landing pages, lots of ESP connectors and production workflow (approvals, QA, multi-workspace brand control). Milo fits when a small team wants a lighter drag-and-drop builder, a brand kit that holds colour and type, an AI designer for first drafts, a Test, then export-ready HTML or MJML, or a Zoho Campaigns draft, without living in a mega-builder. For the wider shortlist, see standalone email builders that export to your ESP.

Quick names check: Beefree, RGE Studio and Beefree SDK

RGE Studio is the current name for the Beefree App, the team design product. Accounts, work and plans carried over when the name changed in May 2026 (RGE Studio FAQ, rebrand note).

Beefree remains the company name and the home of Beefree SDK, the embeddable builder other software products put inside their own apps (beefree.io).

Milo is a standalone email studio you log into. It isn't an SDK you embed in your SaaS.

What both tools are for

Both sit in the same job: design outside your ESP, leave with HTML (or a push), and send from the ESP you already use. That keeps brand and layout from being trapped in one platform's editor. For when that trade-off is worth it, see design then export vs build in your ESP.

Neither tool is the list-sending ESP. You design (and optionally push a draft) in the studio; the campaign goes out from your ESP.

Where RGE Studio is stronger

RGE Studio is a full production suite, and that shows.

Template depth and inspiration. The catalogue is large (Beefree's site cites 1,600+ templates, and RGE Studio pages say over 1,700), plus access to the Really Good Emails gallery. Milo has five starters.

Landing pages alongside email. RGE Studio designs both. Milo is email only.

Many native ESP and CRM connectors. Help centre lists Mailchimp, HubSpot, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Pardot, Zoho Campaigns and a long list of others, with HTML copy, HTML+images ZIP and (on paid plans) PDF as well. Milo's live connect-and-push today is Zoho Campaigns; other ESPs are a file handoff.

Collaboration and production. Comments, roles, approvals, Smart Check / QA helpers and synced rows are plan-dependent strengths for teams that ship a lot of email. Milo's Team plan covers invites, comments and editor presence, plus preview links for proofing. See email proofing for teams.

Beefree SDK. If you need an embeddable builder inside your own product, that's Beefree SDK. Milo doesn't offer that.

Brand locks on higher plans. Brand Styles come standard; Advanced Style Kit and stronger locks sit on Business and above.

Where Milo fits a small team better

Milo's case is a simpler design-then-export path with the AI designer and brand kit at the centre.

AI designer first. You describe the email; the AI designer drafts on-brand blocks onto the canvas; you edit, send a Test, then leave with a file or a Zoho draft. Details: AI email designer. Brand kit inheritance keeps palette, fonts and buttons steady on those blocks. See AI email brand kit and brand kits for email templates.

HTML and MJML on every plan, including Free. RGE Studio's documented exports centre on HTML, ZIP and connectors; MJML export wasn't documented when we checked in October 2026. If your team keeps MJML under version control, that difference matters. See why MJML helps.

Simpler scope. Five starters, a canvas, a Test and proof links, not a 1,700-template production suite with landing pages. For a founder or a one-to-three-person marketing team, less surface area is often the point.

ESP handoff that matches a small stack. Zoho Campaigns draft push when that's your ESP. Otherwise take the file into your ESP or HubSpot.

A Free plan that exports for real. Milo Free includes HTML and MJML export, a Test, one brand kit and up to 20 emails (full limits on the Milo pricing page). RGE Studio's Starter is $0 with up to 10 designs and 6 exports per month, plus a landing page builder. That's fine for occasional projects, and tight if you export often.

Optional extras that stay in the studio, not in the ESP: a content calendar you can subscribe to from Google or Outlook, and Flows for repeating studio steps (not a journey builder).

Who should choose which

Choose RGE Studio if…

  • You want hundreds or thousands of starting templates and the RGE gallery next to the builder.
  • You need landing pages in the same tool as email.
  • You rely on one-click push into Salesforce, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Pardot and similar platforms.
  • You need formal approvals, advanced brand locks, multi-workspace agency setups or the compliance badges they publish.
  • You're evaluating Beefree SDK to embed a builder in your own product.

Choose Milo if…

  • You're a small team or founder who wants on-brand emails without fighting an ESP builder or a mega-suite.
  • You want to describe the email and edit AI-drafted blocks on a brand-kit canvas.
  • You care about MJML as well as HTML handoff.
  • Zoho Campaigns draft push matches your stack, or you're fine importing a file into Mailchimp, HubSpot or another ESP.
  • You want a Free plan with HTML/MJML export and a Test, without a monthly export cap like RGE Starter's six.

You might use both, or neither

Neither replaces your ESP's list and send. If Stripo is also on the shortlist, start with the standalone builders round-up rather than a full Stripo bake-off here.

Pricing snapshot (as of October 2026)

RGE Studio (from reallygoodemails.com/pricing and their pricing help article, checked 8 October 2026): Starter $0 (up to 10 designs, 6 exports/month, landing page builder); Professional $30/mo monthly or $25/mo billed yearly; Business $160/mo monthly or $134/mo billed yearly; Enterprise custom. Plan matrices change, so confirm on their page before you buy.

Milo: Free includes the canvas, Test, HTML/MJML export, one brand kit, one ESP slot, up to 20 emails and 100 AI credits a month. Pro and Team lift those limits (Pro is one seat; Team adds invites, comments and editor presence). Current Pro and Team amounts are on Milo pricing, because they render from billing and can move. Extra Team seats are $12 per user per month, up to 10 seats.

Questions

Is Beefree the same as RGE Studio?

RGE Studio is the current name for the Beefree App (the team design product). Beefree remains the company name and the home of Beefree SDK, the embeddable builder other software products use.

Is Milo a Beefree alternative?

Yes, if what you want is a design-then-export studio. Milo is a lighter alternative focused on an AI designer, brand kits and export-ready HTML or MJML (plus Zoho draft push). It is not a like-for-like replacement for RGE Studio's template catalogue, landing pages or long connector list.

How does Milo compare with RGE Studio for small teams?

RGE Studio suits teams that want a full collaborative suite and many starting templates. Milo suits small teams that want to describe the email, keep it on brand on the canvas, Test it, and leave with HTML or MJML, without the weight of a mega-builder.

Does Milo export MJML? Does RGE Studio?

Milo exports MJML and HTML on every plan. RGE Studio's documented exports centre on HTML, ZIP and connectors; MJML export was not documented when we checked in October 2026.

Can Milo push email drafts to Mailchimp, HubSpot or other ESPs?

Not as a native connect-and-push today. You take export-ready HTML or MJML and import it (we have guides). Zoho Campaigns is the live draft-push connector.

Does RGE Studio or Milo send the campaign?

Neither holds your marketing list as the ESP. You design (and optionally push a draft) in the studio; the campaign goes out from your ESP.

Can I embed Milo like Beefree SDK?

No. Milo is a studio you log into. Beefree SDK is the separate embeddable product for software companies.

Try it on your next email

Describe the email to Milo's AI designer, tweak the blocks on the canvas and send yourself a test. Then export HTML or MJML, or push a draft to Zoho Campaigns.
